Darwish and Mary is a cello and guitar, all singing folk collaboration between Paula Darwish and Hazel Mary, based in North Wales.

The two met in their home town of Conwy and have been performing together since 2025. Crafting songs inspired by the local history, folklore and forgotten stories of their much loved landscape, they have embarked on an adventure to retell local stories in song.

The two both bring different musical influences to the mix: Hazel comes from a classical music background and Paula has been playing Turkish and Kurdish folk music for the past 20 years or so. While they are still developing their sound, initial audience reactions have drawn comparisons with Fairport Convention and the Unthanks.

This gig will mark the release of their first joint album, which includes a dreamy ballad about a local fisherwoman who was also a renowned Eisteddfod singer, a song about the history and folklore of Conwy town and a seafaring epic about the legendary Anglesey bonesetter, Evan Thomas. Their set combines original songs with traditional music from the British Isles and beyond, including some new arrangements of Welsh classics like Dacw 'nghariad.
